Jammin' Salmon Cook Off
IBEW presents the Jammin’ Salmon Cook Off It's Time to Think Salmon!
One of Southcentral residents’ favorite summer activities is fishing. And boy do Alaskans know how to cook salmon. Now is your chance to see how your favorite dish rates with the neighbors. The 5th Annual IBEW Jammin’ Salmon Cook Off will be held Sunday, July 11, in downtown Eagle River. It’s time to see who can reel in the prize for the best salmon recipes in Alaska. Think you have what it takes? Whether it is smoked, brined, marinated, salted or herbed, the proof is in the taste. There are four categories: smoked salmon; appetizers; soups and chowders; and, last but not least, main dishes. On site preparation is encouraged for all of the dishes, with the exception of the smoked salmon. It will be a great opportunity to learn some of the secrets to making Alaska’s favorite seafood dishes. And don’t forget the “salmon burger” – What a way to thrill the grill! Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three dishes in each category, with a $200 grand prize for the “Best Salmon Dish of 2010”. The contest will be judged by an esteemed panel of judges, to include some of the area’s top chefs, along with a few surprises. Cost to enter is $10 per category.
